Rowdy Riley’s Sports Review – SEC Football Week One Recap

Welcome back to Rowdy Riley’s Sports Blog. In this blog post, I will recap week one of College football for the SEC. Most of the SEC teams played cupcake teams (a cupcake team is usually a school that almost no one has heard of and relatively easy to beat). I’m going to go geographically west to east. First team up is the Aggies of Texas A&M. The Aggies routed Sam Houston with a score of 31-0, which isn’t bad for a school that joined the SEC a little over a decade ago. Next up is the Arkansas Razorbacks who were able to declaw the Cincinnati Bearcats with a score of 31-24. The next team went 52-24 on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, that team being the Missouri Tigers. The only loss that was suffered was at the hands of the Seminoles of Florida State who defeated the Tigers of LSU. The score of that game was Florida State 24 to LSU 23.  Ole Miss (I call them Ole Mess) was able to surprise the Troy faithful with the old Trojan horse trick and beat the Trojans by 18. The score of the game was Ole Miss 28 Troy 10. The Tigers of the University of Memphis were turned into a dog toy by the Bulldogs of Mississippi State with a score of 49-23. Let’s be honest here, we all knew the Crimson Tide was going to roll all over Utah State. The score of the blow out was 55-0 all Crimson Tide. The next team went 2-0 in week one. This is going to shock some people as that team was Vanderbilt. The Commodores ABSOLUTELY smashed the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors with a score of 63-10. After starting off the SEC season on a strong note, The Commodores came back to Nashville and beat the Phoenix of Elon University with a score of 42-31.  The Tigers of Auburn University had themself a feast of Bear in Jordan-Hare. The score was 42-16 against Mercer.  The Wildcats from the University of Kentucky put the hurt on the Redhawks from Miami Ohio with a score of 37-13. As the late great John Ward continually quipped as the ball was kicked off, “It’s football time in Tennessee”. That statement was true on Thursday September 1st as The University of Tennessee went and posted 59 points on Ball State who only scored 10 points. In what can only be described as a glorified home game, the Georgia Dawgs did some duck hunting in Atlanta. That was a successful hunt I might add. The score of the game was 49-3. In the upset of the week, the University of Florida Gators went and swamped the Utah Utes. The Utes came into the game ranked seventh.  The Gators won by a field goal making the final score 29-26. Finishing out the SEC geographically west to east is the South Carolina Gamecocks. The Gamecocks were able to dodge being eaten by the Georgia State Panthers. The score was 35-14.  Collectively, the SEC went 13-1 in week one. This was definitely a week for the books.
