This week On The Avenue, we Rocked the Red Kettle with The Salvation Army Nashville. After weeks of anticipation we met the good people from the Salvation Army out at the Fontanel last Sunday, Oct 15, to put on a show. The event was an outdoor concert, with performances from Damien Horne, who also hosted the event, The McCrary Sisters, Ty Brasel, Joy Styles, Ilonka Deaton, Vashawn Mitchell, and BravndonP & Mission.

Everyone recognizes that familiar sound at Christmas time of a red, Salvation Army bell ringing as a Santa Clause mans a Red Kettle. What you may not know, is that those red kettles are a vital part of The Salvation Army’s funding stream to keep all of their other amazing programs going strong all year round. Knowing this, the mission of Rock The Red Kettle was to connect with corporate, civic and church groups who would be willing to sponsor or adopt kettles throughout Nashville so that the Salvation Army can keep fighting the good fight through the next year.

With all of this in mind and the help of The Salvation Army Nashville staff and all of the awesome volunteers that came out to support, we got busy setting up the stage, tents and games in preparation for our guests at 2:30pm. When that time finally rolled around, the concert kicked the concert off with a bang as the The McCrary Sisters did what they do best, belting out some beautiful music. Concert goers rolled in with the rain, but no one let it dampen their spirits (haha get it… dampen) because not even rain can ruin good music and good company. We played games, ate lots of yummy food, and listened to some AMAZING live music, all while supporting good cause. All in all, and I think everyone who attended would agree, it was a Sunday well spent.
