On The Avenue: The Bison Boogie

IMG_2606

This week On The Avenue, we’re talking about The Bison Boogie 5k. Every Thursday, the IDEAL Program from Lipscomb University visits us here in the office to give Woodard Brothers a helping hand. For those of you that have never heard of the IDEAL Program, it works with students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to help them prepare for and pursue better education opportunities and employment options by setting them up with internships that best match their interests and abilities. We’ve been having a blast teaming up with them, so we had to come support when we heard that they were partnering with Lipscomb Campus Recreation to put on the 2nd Annual Bison Boogies 5k.

The race was held on the Lipscomb campus, and served as a fundraiser, with all proceeds going towards The IDEAL scholarship fund. The money earned from admission will help future IDEAL students get the same awesome opportunity to gain a good education and valuable life skills.

So last Saturday at 6:45 am sharp, over 130 runners and 50 volunteers arrived in style, wearing costumes and a sensible pair of running shoes (of course), ready to check in and get those 5 kilometers under their belt one way or another. All of this years runner left their heart on the track, but the fastest and fiercest of the bunch was an IDEAL student, Trey Tucker. While only one may have won the race, all of the participants won the day, donating to an amazing program and getting some good ole fashioned exercise.

Have a blessed day, and remember to check back with me next week here On The Avenue.
