Supporting Employees with Disabilities

This week On The Avenue we’re celebrating National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM)! Observed every October, NDEAM is a nationwide campaign that celebrates the contributions of workers with disabilities throughout American history, and emphasizes the importance of ensuring that all Americans have access to the services and supports to enable them to work.

The theme for 2018 is “America’s Workforce: Empowering All,” which is a nod to the U.S. Department of Labor’s commitment to ensuring a workforce for Americans of all abilities. The ability to hold a job that ensures regular hours, access to food, and sustainable pay is all too rare for American’s with disabilities. Last year the unemployment rate for persons with a disability was 9.2%, which more than doubled the unemployment rate for those with no disability at 4.2%.

Here at Westwood Avenue and Woodard Brothers we are proud to be an integrated workforce, made up of both employees who are neurotypical and employees with special needs. Our environment is so deeply enriched by our diverse staff with each of us having our own unique way of thinking through our workflow and getting things accomplished. We are committed to breaking boundaries and enjoying new horizons every day with our close-knit team working together to fulfill hundreds of orders and deliver creative marketing campaigns.
