On The Avenue: UCLA PEERS Program

Today On The Avenue we want to shed some light on another program that we LOVE. For individuals on the spectrum, making and maintaining meaningful relationships with peers is often a huge challenge in their lives. While we at On The Avenue focus mostly on education meant to push work-based skills forward, and increased social skills are often a positive side effect from that process, the skills needed to advance those interpersonal relationships are a curriculum all on their own.

PEERS (Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills), is a program out of UCLA fulfilling just that need. This 16-week program focuses solely on teaching those social skills, so that their participants who are on the spectrum are able to lead a fulfilling life with friends and family in a more conscientious way.

Check out the video below to learn more about the program, and how you can access their lessons and information.

You can click here to visit PEERS website, and here to visit their Facebook page.

We always love to see another program doing work we’re passionate about, so thank you to PEERS for being such an inspiration!
